We are thrilled to introduce Mr. Travis C. Terry of Americus, Georgia as the new principal of our school. With a rich background in educational leadership spanning every level of K-12 education, Mr. Terry brings a deep commitment to academic excellence, social-emotional support, and preparing students for college and career success. Mr. Terry’s educational background is both diverse and extensive, reflecting his commitment to lifelong learning and professional growth. He began his academic journey at Mercer University in Macon, Georgia, studying International Business. He then earned a BS. Ed in Health Education from Georgia Southwestern State University in December 2005. Continuing his specialization, he completed a M. Ed, in Health Education there also. Further advancing his leadership skills, Mr. Terry obtained Masters level certification in Educational Leadership from Columbus State University in 2009. Most recently, he earned an Education Specialist degree in Middle Grades Education from Georgia Southwestern State University demonstrating his dedication to supporting students across various educational levels. Mr. Terry has served in leadership roles across elementary, middle, and high school settings, giving him a comprehensive understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities at each stage of learning. He has most recently served as Principal at Terrell County High School, where he focused on fostering a culture of academic rigor, social-emotional well-being, and readiness for life beyond school. Previously, he was Assistant Principal at Merry Acres Middle School and Morningside Elementary School, where he led curriculum improvements, data-driven instruction, positive behavior interventions, and school culture initiatives. His early career includes teaching, coaching and administrative roles with stints Athletic Director and Dean of Discipline at Stewart County High School. Mr. Terry’s leadership is grounded in relational leadership, emphasizing the importance of building strong, supportive relationships among faculty, staff, students, and families. He believes that a positive and motivating school culture is essential for engagement and success. By fostering an environment where everyone feels valued and supported, Mr. Terry aims to unite the school community around a shared mission and vision, driving both academic and social growth. Outside of his professional role, Mr. Terry is a devoted family man. He and his wife, LaToya are proud parents of three adult children (Keandra, Devin, and Tierra). They are also grandparents to three wonderful grandchildren (Jaiden, Noelle, and Rowyn). Please join us in warmly welcoming Principal Travis C. Terry and his family to our school community. Mr. Samuel Mackey is a native of Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He received his undergraduate degree in Mathematics from Albany State University, and his Master of Arts in Educational Leadership from Barry University. Mr. Mackey has been an educator for the past 31 years. He has served as a mathematics teacher who also coached cross country, track and field, and wrestling. He has been an assistant principal for a middle school and high schools; and is now the principal of Calhoun County High School. Mr. Mackey’s philosophy of education is, “Be proud of who you are, but don’t forget to educate those in need of an education”. His mission is to ensure every student is provided with a rigorous education where everyone is devoted to academic excellence. He is a member of Oakie Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Albany, Georgia where he is actively involved. He is also the founder of the TOGETHER Organization, Inc., a nonprofit youth organization focused on leadership and academic excellence. Mr. Mackey and his wife, Shante Mackey, are the proud parents of two adult children, Samuel and Chantel.

Deshon Brock has been named the new head football coach at Calhoun County, returning to south Georgia after spending the past five years at Bradwell Institute in Savannah. Brock’s motto is “earn everything,” and he plans to build the program brick by brick. He said he wants to score points and play an exciting brand of football. Brock is originally from Leesville, Louisiana, and is a military brat. He played quarterback at Mississippi Valley State University for Willie Tieden, who was Jerry Rice’s quarterback.

He started his coaching career at Long County High School before moving to Mitchell County and then Bradwell Institute.

Brock is a father of four. His son plays football in Texas and will transfer in the fall. He also has twins and a 15-year-old daughter.
